Out of many Japanese fairy tales, I think the tale of UrashimaTaro is
especially fascinating. As you are aware outline of the tale is as follows.
One day in ancient time a young man saved the life of a sea turtle. The turtle was very
thankful and in return to his kind deed offered a nice trip for him to ride on its back .
He was led to a beautiful castle in which seductive princess lived.
After merry days with the princess there for a few weeks, he return to his native village.
Much to his embarasement he found he was nothing but a stranger in the village.
And he desperately opened a casket given to him when leaving the castle.
No sooner had he seen smoke coming out of it, he turned to an ald man.
This fairy tale tells us the ancient people had a magnificent imagination.
Otherwise he must have been brought to some planet much long away
from the earth by UFO turtle, in which the lapse of
time is quite differedt from that of the earth.
I am indeed fascinated by this tale.
数多い日本のおとぎ話のうち、 浦島太郎の話には特別に魅せられます。 ご存知のとおり およその筋書き
は次の通りです。
昔ある時、 一人の青年が海亀の命を助けます。 海亀は彼の行為にたいそう
感謝し、 お返しに海中の世界への旅にいざないます。
彼は美しい海の中のお城に連れられます。 そこには魅惑的な王女の乙姫が住んでいました。 そこでの王女との楽しい日々のあと、 彼は生まれ故郷の村に帰りました。
しかしその村では彼を見知る人は一人もいないのでたいそう戸惑ってしまいました。 そして絶望した気持になって、 お城を去るときもらった小箱を開けました。 そこから煙が立ち上るのを見るやいなや、 彼は老人に変わってしまいました。
このおとぎ話は昔の人はびっくりするほどの想像力があったことを語っています。
もしくは、 彼はＵＦＯである亀によって地球から遥かに遠い惑星に連れて行かれた
にちがいありません。 そこは時間の経過が地球とは全く違っていたのです。 全くこのおとぎ話には魅せられます。
